When it comes to yoga – commitment is key.

Like, when you go to the doctor’s and they give you a course of treatment, you won’t get the effects if you just take the medication from time to time. If you are studying any subject, you won’t feel confident in your knowledge if you show up only every once in a while. Yoga works on the same principle of cumulative effect.

Of course, we can’t completely control the circumstances of our lives. Things happen – emergencies, stuff that we must take care of first. But the goal of commitment isn’t to achieve a flawless attendance record. The question is, are we making space in our lives to do yoga or are we just waiting for the spare time that never comes? If we wait for the day when we have little else to do and we are not tired and stressed, we might find ourselves waiting forever.

To feel the benefits of yoga for your mind and your body, you have to be consistent. Which doesn’t mean being rigid. You are not a failure if you can’t make a class. Just come back next time. You don’t allow life in general to invade the space and time you have reserved for yourself.

And when you keep doing that, you’ll find that the practice starts to support your life, rather than being just another “to-do” on your list.
