Do your joints feel tight when you wake up in the morning? Does getting up from a chair or squatting to reach something on the floor feel harder than it used to? Then my new course Yoga for joint health is for you!
As we age—or even when we’re simply less active—our joints can start to feel stiff, achy, or restricted. This stiffness can gradually limit our mobility, making it more difficult to enjoy the activities we love, from gardening or hiking to playing with our children or grandchildren.
But! You can reclaim ease of movement, and yoga is a fantastic place to start.
Why joint health matters
Healthy joints are essential for everyday freedom and comfort. They allow us to move smoothly and without pain, whether we’re walking, reaching, bending, or twisting. But when movement becomes limited, we often move even less, which can lead to a frustrating cycle of increasing stiffness and discomfort.
The key to breaking that cycle? Gentle, consistent, intentional movement.
How yoga helps
Yoga offers a unique and accessible approach to joint health. Through a combination of movement, poses and body and breath awareness, yoga helps by:
- Increasing circulation to the joints, improving the flow of oxygen and nutrients
- Stimulating synovial fluid, the natural lubricant that keeps joints gliding smoothly
- Improving mobility and flexibility through low-impact, full-range motion
- Reducing tension and inflammation by calming down the nervous system
With regular practice, even long-standing stiffness can improve. And if you’re just beginning to notice changes in your mobility, now is the perfect time to act—early intervention can prevent further discomfort and keep your joints healthy for years to come.
